Candlestick Stick Pins
Columbia School of Mines.JPG - CANDLESTICK STICK PINS FROM COLUMBIA SCHOOL OF MINES - The oldest mining school in the US, the Columbia School of Mines in New York City, was started in 1864. Around the turn of the century, graduates of the school were awarded miniature miners’ candlestick stick pins as a symbol of their achievement. The gold candlestick on the left (ca. 1900) is 1 1/4 in. long with a mother of pearl candle and red stone flame. The gold candlestick on the right (ca. 1900) is 1 1/8 in. long also with a mother of pearl candle and red stone flame. These candlestick stick pins are rare today and highly sought by collectors. See the mining stick pin collection shown in my Miscellaneous Mining Items album.
